2010 marks the 9th Anniversary of the GLBT Films Series within the Breckenridge Film Festival. We are very pleased to welcome back Out Front Colorado for another year as one of our official GLBT sponsors. In addition, this year’s festival marks another significant accomplishment for the GLBT Films, an event grant awarded to us by the Gay & Lesbian Fund for Colorado. We are extremely honored and excited to add them to our list of sponsors for the GLBT Film Series.

A primary reason we were awarded this event grant is the fact that we are a GLBT Series within a larger non-GLBT festival. Because of this, we are able to give our filmmakers the chance to have their work shown to a larger and more diverse audience, and in the process cross boundaries and break stereotypes within the straight community. During our 2006 Festival, the film COFFEE DATE, was the first GLBT film to be presented with an audience favorite award for the larger festival.

Most of the films we show are submitted directly to the Film Festival while others are acquired from Festivals such as Sundance and the Gay and Lesbian Film Festivals of New York, San Francisco, and Miami. Most if not all films are Colorado debuts. To our credit, some films such as 20 CENTIMETERS, ADAM & STEVE, EATING OUT, BROTHER TO BROTHER and NAKED FAME, which screened in Breckenridge in prior years, have gone on to win awards at many other festivals throughout the world and have also received significant critical and box office success.

The Breckenridge Film Festival provides an opportunity for filmmakers, actors, directors, and writers to express themselves freely and interact with audiences in an atmosphere in which film stimulates the exploration of ideas, attitudes and emotions. In keeping with those interests, the GLBT Films touch upon subject matters as diverse as the population it represents and, in the process, promotes the understanding and creative expression of diverse communities. The GLBT Films of the Breckenridge Film Festival offers people an opportunity to explore issues dealing with the homosexual, bisexual and transgender community in a safe, entertaining environment.

We are proud of the impact this program has made on our Festival. We hope you will be too. We'll see you at the movies.
