Brother to Brother
drama
Running Time: 90
Offering a rare glimpse into the 1930s Harlem Renaissance period, Brother to Brother’s narrative documentary tells the story of Perry Williams, a talented young artist working in a New York homeless shelter. He’s on the verge of making it in the art world. He is fighting a spiritual battle of selling out to the elite white world. His father has rejected his homosexuality, his romance with his white boyfriend is lack luster and his friends are elusively supportive.
Then Perry meets Bruce Nugent, a poet and painter of the Harlem Renaissance, along with Langston Hughes, Wallace Thurman and Zora Neale Hurston. Through Bruce, Perry learns to remain true to his artistic instinct and to himself.
